Parents of Gender Diverse Children works hard to give a voice to parents and those parenting transgender and gender diverse children. We know that parents who are well supported are better able to support their children; and that feeling connected, safe and included plays a vital part in creating strong and resilient families.

We believe that no matter your age, you will always be someone's child.  We do not impose any age restrictions or conditions upon the families that we support. Learning that your child is transgender or gender diverse can be confronting, challenging and isolating for parents and carers. It can also be a tremendously positive and uplifting experience. Parents of Gender Diverse Children can connect you with other families all across Australia who also are seeking support, friendship, referrals, resources and information as they navigate this journey.

We provide confidential, non-judgemental direct peer support to families – individual contact with all families is a vital part of what we do. Building on that direct peer support we run monthly catchups that are a fun and social way for families to meet and build a support network, in a safe, inclusive and non-judgemental environment.  We also have an online "Parent Hub" that provides a safe space to seek peer support, chat with others parents and carers and share their experiences.

Feeling connected and supported leads to improved self confidence and resilience which are key building blocks for positive mental health outcomes.  Well informed, supported and resourced parents and young people have reduced incidence of depression, self harm, school refusal, and anxiety.*
